Abstract Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary brain tumor with a median survival of 17-20 months. Despite therapeutic treatments including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, subset GBM clones, termed cancer stem cells (CSCs) are radio-resistant and chemo-resistant, leading to mortality patient. CSCs also have altered metabolic profiles an enhanced capacity scavenge nutrients from their microenvironment, iron. Lipocalin-2 (LCN2) functions sequester iron traditionally considered inflammatory marker through its function limiting for bacterial usage. LCN2 has been described both pro anti-tumorigenic context-dependent depending on status. shown be important in metastasis, but role still largely unknown. To investigate how plays we orthotopically implanted syngeneic mouse into male female knockout wild-type mice. Female mice succumbed tumors faster compared males, revealing another example sex differences microenvironment. assess cell-intrinsic LNC2, added recombinant cell lines saw that proliferation increased.
